HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Columbia College softball team (1-3, 0-0 AAC) dropped two non-conference games to the Coker College Cobras at Saleeby-Stokes Field over the weekend to finish the week 1-3. Columbia faltered 12-1 allowing the Cobras to take the first game before bracing and holding them to a 5-0 loss in the second game.
Coker (11-1) scored six runs in the first inning keeping Columbia scoreless until the fourth when a hit by Jamie Rankin (FR/Rock Hill, SC) sent a single to left center, bringing Savanna Platt (SR/Columbia, SC) home for an RBI. The game ended in the fifth 12-1.
Pitcher Valerie Caballero (SO/West Seneca, NY) (L, 0-2) took her second loss of the season pitching twenty-nine strikes in the first game.
The Koalas refused to give up and held the Cobras scoreless through the first three innings before Coker put up three. Another two runs by the Cobras finished the game 5-0 with Columbia scoreless.
Pitcher Morgan Smith (JR/Greenville, SC) (L, 1-1) struck one runner out and finished the second game for Koalas.
The Koalas will return Tuesday, February 21st at Benedict for games at 1pm and 3pm.
