COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Columbia College (2-4, 0-0 AAC) softball team split a doubleheader with local team Benedict College (3-8) on Tuesday afternoon.
Columbia College started slow in the first game before cutting the lead to 4-3 in the second inning. Benedict held the score to 6-3 but Columbia added a run in the fourth and four additional runs in the fifth, capitalizing on Benedict's errors to take an 8-6 win over the Tigers.
The second game remained a close 1-0 until the Koalas tied the game 1-1 with a run in the fourth inning. The Tigers pushed a 5-1 lead but Columbia cut the score to 5-2 in the sixth and added another two in the seventh attempting a late comeback but the game ended on a flyout to bring the final score to 5-4.
Columbia's pitcher Jamie Rankin (FR/Rock Hill, SC)(1-0) took the win in the first while Valerie Caballero (SO/West Seneca, NY) (L, 0-3) took the loss in the second.
Columbia will play again at home on Wednesday the 22nd against NAIA team Edward Waters at 1pm and 3pm.
