Porter Gym - Columbia College women's basketball fell to Florida Memorial on Friday night in their opening game of the 2017-2018 season.
Florida Memorial (FMU) was ready to go, with this being their third game of the season. FMU was able to gain an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as they led by as many as 10. Columbia however exploited their tiredness and fought back by closing the gap edging them by 17 to 11 in points in the final quarter.
Coming out of the break, the Lions were leading by 18 points (48-30). Columbia who struggled to score as many points as the first two quarters didn't stop, coming back in the final quarter by outscoring the opponents 17-11. Although Columbia was strong in finishing second chance points in comparison to the Lady Lions, it was evident that the Lions punished Columbia on the turnovers.
Morgan Varn (So/ Bamberg, SC) lead Columbia with both field goals made (8-11) and free throws made (5-10)
Columbia College will be on the road to NAIA ranked 25th Tallageda on Tuesday, November 7 at 5:30pm.
