Sherrill Honored but Koalas Go Down

In a game that saw Senior Amber Sherrill get recognized for her achievements as a Koala, the team was unable to put away the Union Bulldogs. As hard as they fought the Koalas were never able to recover from the deficit the Bulldogs had in the first quarter. The game ended with a score of 66-53.

Leading the scoring was a tie between Junior Victoria Williams and Sophomore Denijah Johnson both with 10 points. Johnson also had 11 rebounds which is another double- double, bringing her total to 7 for the season. Rounding off the top scorers was Junior Morgan Varn who contributed 9 points and 4 rebounds. But Varn played her best game against Unions 6'7 Center Jaimie Curtis. Varn held Curtis to only 2 points and forced two turnovers and also recorded a block. Varn played a key role in the defensive effort to stop the Bulldogs and did an exceptional job of it.

Other scorers for Columbia included Morgan, Mohammed, Sherrill, Hawes and Weyer.

The Koalas head to Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday January, 23rd in a must win match-up. The Koalas beat TWU earlier this year and have to repeat that effort if they want to stay in the hunt for a post season tournament birth.
