Yesterday afternoon the fighting Koalas traveled to Cleveland, GA to take on conference opponent Truett-McConnell. It was obvious from the tip off that the ladies were there to the take care of business. The Koalas almost immediately jumped out to a quick 10 point lead in the first quarter. Although discouraged, the Bears of Truett McConnell did not go without a fight, and had the game within 2 points by the end of the third quarter. None the less, the Koalas walked away with a strong victory with a score of 70-63.
Without question this game was won from a total team effort. That is apparent when you look at the stat line and note that 10 out of the 13 players that saw playing time scored. But none made more of an impact than Junior Morgan Varn. Not only did she lead the team in scoring with 19 points, but she also lead the team with her 11 rebounds. Offcially recording her fisrt doudble-double of the season, Varn is back on track to being a force within the conference.
Other top scorers included Senior Amber Sherrill with 11 points, Junior Jenesai Mohammed with 10, and Sophomore Denijah Johnson with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Other contributors were Williams, Wood, Benn, Morgan, Hawes, and Ferguson.
The Koalas have some time to rest and prepare for their next competition which is Wednesday, December 5th at St. Andrews University. Tip off is at 5:30pm.
