COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College lacrosse team (7-5, 4-2 AAC) lost 9-11 Saturday afternoon, falling to Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (9-4, 6-0 AAC).
The Bulldogs scored twenty-eight seconds into the first half to quickly mark the board 1-0 but senior Kendra Blackstock (SR/Mount Pleasant, SC) answered back and was followed a few minutes later by Devon Walter (SR/Columbia, SC). A third goal from Shanna Puckett (SR/Clinton, SC) gave the Koalas a 3-1 lead.
However, two back-to-back goals from Tennessee cut the lead and tied the game. A third goal in six minutes from the Bulldogs switched the lead to 3-4. A goal from Aaleeyah Brimmer (JR/ Charleston, SC) equalized the game and another goal from Blackstock gave the Koalas a 5-4 lead. Puckett and Tiffany Tortorello (JR/Pine Bush, NY) added another two goals apiece. Blackstock finished the half for the Koalas adding a finally goal but a last second point from the Bulldogs left the score 8-5 at the half.
Tennessee came back hard in the second half and a combination of saves and four goals from the Bulldogs dominated the game. The Koalas posted a single goal from Walter during the second half. The game remained tied at 9-9 until the Bulldogs pulled away and pushed another two goals before closing the game 11-9 for Tennessee.
Freshman Goalie Diamond Brown (FR/Queens, NY) posted 6 saves and 11 goals allowed for a save percentage of 35%.
Columbia plays away this Thursday, April 6th at 3pm against AAC opponent St.Andrews University.
