The Columbia College Koalas advanced to the quarter final round with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Brenau Golden Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.
Columbia (6-4-1 AAC), the #6 seed, met up with the Golden Tigers (1-9-1 AAC) for the second time this season after beating them on the road for their first conference victory in mid September. The outcome would be the same this time as well, with the Koalas notching the 3-0 win and moving on to the quarter finals against the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes.
It took less than eight minutes for Columbia to open the scoring, when Amber Tanner found Ruby Hallam inside the box, and the junior turned and shot left footed into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the Koalas. It was Hallam's fifth goal of the year, and team and conference leading fourth game winning goal.
Twelve minutes later it was 2-0, and this time it was the reverse of the first goal. Ruby Hallam made a run down the right and squared the ball to Tanner, who took a touch before firing it home for her team leading eighth goal of the year.
The two teams traded shots and posession throughout the rest of the half and into the second half, before the Koalas added a third through a very unlikely source. In the 63rd minute, Tanner played a through ball to defender Hannah Fox, and she slotted the ball past the keeper to notch her first career goal in her 75th career game.
The Koalas defense and keepers held strong for the rest of the game to earn their fifth shutout of the year, and improve their overall record to 7-8-3.
Columbia will travel to Milligan College, TN, for a 7pm Friday night kickoff in the 3v6 matchup of the AAC Tournament.
