Koalas Pick Up First Tie of the Year in Stalemate with Cavaliers

The Columbia College Koalas collected their first tie of the season in an exciting 1-1 draw with the visiting Montreat College Lady Cavaliers.

On an extremely warm afternoon at Younts Soccer Stadium, the Koalas got off to a blistering start while completely dominating the Cavaliers.  After a few quality chances, Columbia got on the board through a set piece.  A corner from Senior Ruby Hallam was headed back across the goal by Junior AJ Gilmore, and Senior Jaena Dominguez was on hand to run in and head the ball into the back of the net from just inside the six yard box.  It was Dominguez's third goal of the year while it was the first assist of the year for Gilmore.

After dominating the opening period, the Koalas were then penned back slightly by Montreat, who came into their own and managed a period of success.  Minutes into the second half, the Cavs tied the game on a breakaway.

The latter part of the second half was similar to the early part of the first, as the Koalas again had chances to score, but were unable to find the winner.

The overtime periods were again both dominated by the Koalas, who had multiple chances to win the game including two cleared off the line, but in the end the match finished 1-1 and both teams picked up a point in the AAC Standings.

The Koalas currently stand at 4-4-1 and 3-2-1 in the AAC, and will play again on Sunday, October 7th when they host the AAC leading Truett-McConnell Bears at 4PM.
