COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koalas Tennis team finished out their 2011-2012 season this past weekend at the AAC conference tournament. Columbia finished the season with an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 3-1. Columbia's tennis program was the recipient of the Champions of Character award alongside Milligan.
The season was an overall success lead by Senior, Abbagayle Stevenson, who prior to the tournament grabbed the last Player of the Week nomination for women's tennis in the AAC. Not only did she lead her team to their first post season win against the Lady Rams of Bluefield but she was also honored as Sportman of the Year and apart of the All Academic team for the AAC.
Newcomer, Mara Reiss a freshman from Ogallala, NE was also honored by the AAC and named to the AAC All-Conference team. Reiss was the only Columbia College tennis player named to the All-Conference team and joined Stevenson as she also represented the Fighting Koalas on the AAC All-Academic team.
Head Coach Lindsey Hughes couldn't be happier with the success of the season, "I'm extremely proud of the girls and how they handled themselves both on and off the court. Our team strives to be a class act and I'm honored our program received the Champions of Character Award."
