Columbia Tennis defeats Valkyries 5-4

Spartanburg, S.C.— The Columbia College tennis team (1-1, 0-1 AAC) defeated instate rival Converse College (0-7) 5-4 Friday afternoon in a close upset to secure their first win of the season.  

Columbia tied 4-4 as Caitlyn Wolf (SO/North Myrtle Beach, SC) entered her third set against Valkyrie tennis player Alex Schlesener. Wolf took the first set 6-3 but fell just short with a score of 6-4 before coming back with force to defeat Schlesener 6-2 to clinch to the Columbia victory.  

Coach Powell was ecstatic about the performance, "I do not think I have ever been more proud of this team and the heart they displayed in today's match. Their hard work paid off today." She credited Converse for playing an incredible match.

The tennis team plays again tomorrow Saturday, February 18th at the Lexington County Tennis Complex against AAC rival Union (KY) at 2pm.
