Winthrop/Adidas 33rd Invitational

On an overcast day at Winthrop University, the Koalas competed at the Winthrop/Adidas 33rd Invitational. In their division, the Koalas finished 7th out of 13 teams ranging from NAIA to NCAA D2 teams from all over the south.

First year, Alyssa Waibel, was first to cross the line for the Koalas in 19th place with a time of 21:39. QuEssence Gillison was right on her heels in a 20th place finish (21:41). Irene Requena was next in 22:13, good enough for 30th place. Annika Wicht placed 50th in a time of 23:52. Miyonta Mavins crossed 60th place in a time of 25:01. Helen Taylor rounded out the Koalas finishers in 25:39, which landed her in 71st place.

Lauren Glencross is battling a respiratory issue and was not able to complete the race today, but held her own.

Coach Nichols had this to say about the performance of his women today. "We treated the race today as a workout. We wanted to emphasize group running and consistent pacing. I saw a lot of positive things today that tells me we are nowhere near our potential. Our goal has always been moving up at the conference meet and this was just a stepping stone in that process. I am proud of these young women."
