The Koalas traveled to Hardeeville for the USCB Sand Shark Invitational and toed the line with 26 other teams. They faced all the top teams from the AAC conference as well as many other top NAIA and NCAA teams. "We ran the best we have all year and are peaking at the right time. We had a 1-5 range of just over 90 seconds which is highly impressive. I could not be more proud of these young women", says Coach Nichols of his team's performance on Saturday.
Senior Janay Chisholm led the way with a strong 20:12, good enough for 74th place. That was her fastest cross country 5k in nearly 2 years. First year Alyssa Waibel ran a career 5k best (by 17 seconds) of 20:27 which landed her in 82nd. Qu'Essence Gillison ran a tough race and finished in 87th place with a time of 20:33. Irene Requena came in 131st with a t time of 21:22. Lauren Glencross has battled respiratory issues all year, but ran a career best of 21:49 and finished in 149th. Miyonta Mavins ran a tough 22:07 and finished 158th. Annika Wicht moved up each mile of the race and finished in 169th with a time of 22:32. Junior Helen Taylor has now ran a PR in three straight races. She dropped her time by 10 seconds and ran a 23:17 which saw her finish in 189th place.
The Koalas finished in 15th place as a team and 4th out of AAC teams. The next meet will be the AAC meet November 5th hosted by Montreat.
