Koalas win Palmetto State Invite

The Columbia College Koalas Cross Country team won their opening meet of the 2018 season At the 2018 Palmetto State Cross Country Invite, the conditions were less than ideal with it being close to 95 degrees.  “Columbia International put on a great event, and our ladies ran strong in the midst of a ridiculously hot day”, Coach Nichols said about the Koalas racing to a 12 point team victory over AAC foes, Brenau and CIU. They were also able to beat NAIA competition, USCB.

Alyssa Waibel worked hard and finished 2nd nearly a minute faster than the next racer.  Lauren Glencross was the next Koala in 5th place followed by freshmen Diana Gleaton (8th) and Ayanah Howard (10th).  “Ayanah gave us a scare, ending up in the ER with heat exhaustion, but she ended up being fine after fluids being cooled down.”  First years Hannah Mishkoff (14th), Heather Woolard (17th), Ashlyn Phipps (28th) really ran hard in their first collegiate race.  Allison Scrimpsher also made her collegiate debut in 31st, and Julisa Echeverria was right behind her in 32nd.  Running unattached was freshman Kennedy Beach (21st) and Ladaisha Louallen (30th).

You can catch the Koalas in action next at Winthrop on September 15th.
