Koala Men's Win Streak Comes to an End in Loss to Truett
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's basketball team fell 78-69 at home to conference foe Truett McConnell University (Ga.) on Wednesday evening as their six-game win streak came to an end.
The Koalas got off to a hot shooting start making their first three 3-pointers and went on to lead 20-13 eight minutes into the game. However, TMU then went on an 11-0 run to take a 24-20 lead at the 7:30 mark of the half.
The teams would then trade points back-and-forth as TMU took a slim 36-34 lead into the halftime break. The Koalas then recorded their only lead of the second half, going up 51-50 at the 11-minute mark. However, Truett went on a 9-0 run to take a 59-51 lead while the Koalas could only get to within six points the rest of the way.
Columbia shot 39 percent overall but only 32% from three while TMU shot 44% from the floor but just 31.5% from three. CC was led by three in double figures with senior guard Tae Burton recording 18 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and two steals while junior wing Chandler O'Bannon posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds with two assists and two steals.
Senior guard Thomas Whitley also played well scoring 11 points and 3 threes with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while guards Austin Harrell and Alileyon Ford each scored six points apiece as well.
Columbia falls to 10-12 overall and 7-6 in the conference while TMU improved to 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the AAC.
The Koalas are right back in action on Friday when they head north to central Tennessee to battle Bryan College at 6:00 pm.
