COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's basketball team went up against a buzzsaw of an opponent on Senior Day Saturday as Union Commonwealth University (Ky.) defeated the Koalas 79-51.
Union steadily built a lead in the first half increasing it to 12 points at the break going up 42-30. UC would control the second half also never letting the Koalas get to within single digits as they outscored CC 37-21 to go on for the win.
Union shot 48.5% overall while holding the Koalas to just 32% from the floor and just 23% from three. Three Koalas finished with 9 points apiece led by senior guard Tae Burton's three 3-pointers while redshirt freshman forward Zach Smith posted 9 points, 4 rebounds, and a block. Junior wing Chandler O'Bannon also scored 9 points while senior guard Thomas Whitley had 6 points, 3 assists and a steal.
Columbia falls to 12-14 overall and 9-8 in the conference while Union improved to 11-14 and 9-7 in the AAC.
The Koalas will next host rival CIU on Wednesday at 8PM in their home finale.
