Golf Teams Place 4th at Sandhills Spring Invite

RESULTS

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Columbia College men's golf team finished fourth at the Stitch Golf/SCC Flyers Spring Invitational from Longleaf Golf Club in southern Pines, NC on Tuesday.

Georgia Military CC won the Invite shooting a +24 over 600 score while Sandhills Comm. College (N.C.) finished second at 33-over 609. St. Andrews (NC) was third at 48-over 624 while Columbia was 4th at 62-over 638. Columbia shot consecutive team scores of 319 each day. Emory & Henry (Va.) then finished 5th followed by Columbia's "B" team at 679. Southwest VA CC was 7th followed by Patrick Henry CC, NE Tech, and Sandhills B team.

Senior Blake Vaughn led the Koalas with a 6th place finish at 7-over 151 shooting rounds of 77 and a 74 on day two. He finished with two birdies on Monday in round one followed by two other birdies in round two while his 74 was the 5th-best round of the day. Freshman Zachary Mock then finished tied for 15th at 14 over 158 with consecutive rounds of 79 each day. 

Freshman Hayden Ardis then placed 19th at 17-over 161 after improving by nine strokes in round two shooting a 76 on Tuesday, the 7th-best round of the day. Fellow freshman Thomas Campbell then placed 24th at 19 over 163 with rounds of 80 and 83 while freshman Jaxon Mock and sophomore Ryan Lord tied for 26th at 22 over 166. Mock and Lord each shot rounds of 83 apiece each day.

Freshman Josh Brown placed 31st at 27-over 171 with rounds of 85 and 86. Freshmen Christian Hadley and Gavin Ratliff then placed 36th and 40th respectively out of the 51-man field. Hadley (+31) recorded rounds of 80 and 95 while Ratliff (+33) posted rounds of 83 and 94. Stephen Swenson also placed 46th with rounds of 99 and 102.

Junior Women's player Abigayle Johnson finished 4th in her field as well shooting rounds of 100 and 101 for a 57-over 201.

The Koala golfers will next be in action next week in the North Greenville Trailblazer Invite on Monday and Tuesday at Cherokee Valley CC in Travelers Rest, SC.
