Gordish tied for 2nd, Golf Tied for 3rd Place after Round One

CHAPIN, S.C. - The Columbia College men's golf team was sitting in a tie for third with CIU after the opening round Monday of their annual Koala Classic at Timberlake Country Club in Chapin on Lake Murray.

CC shot a +16 over 300 team score to sit 10 strokes back of the leaders SMC and Montreat who fired a +6 over 290.

Individually, freshman Parker Gordish was in a tie for 2nd place after shooting a -1 under 70 in the first round on a warm Monday to lead the Koala "A" team. Sophomore Jaxon Mock was next in 18th place after a +4 over 75 while his twin brother, Zach Mock was 22nd with a +5 over 76. Senior Daniel "DJ" Freese then led the Koala "B" team with a +7 over 78 to sit in 31st place while sophomores Josh Brown and Gavin Ratliff were tied for 35th after rounds of +8 over 79.

In 44th place was sophomore Christian "Reese" Hadley with a +9 over 80 as the Koalas put 7 guys in the top 50 in the 107-man field. Brandon Russ was then in 53rd place after a first round 81 while freshman Jackson Arseneau was 67th with a +12 over 83. Senior Owen Talbot also shot a +16 over 87 to sit in 85th place while freshman Tanner Caldwell shot a +29 over 100.

The Team teed off on Tuesday morning around 10:15 am in round two.

SMC took the team lead early in round two over Montreat College while CIU was in third at +19 over in the round while Koalas are 4th in round two at +21 over. Other AAC schools Milligan is in 5th and Bryan is 14th.
