Men's Soccer's Rally Not Enough in Loss at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team fell 3-1 on the road at NCAA Div. III Greensboro College Wednesday afternoon.

GC struck first scoring in the 6th minute on a quick shot. Columbia then, unfortunately, helped GC make it 2-0 as they accidentally scored an own goal as they tried to clear the ball on defense. GC led 2-0 after the first 7 minutes of the game.

The Koalas would not quit, however, as freshman forward Matthias Dennis was able to get a foul in the box on his drive to the goal giving him a penalty kick. Dennis of course made it cutting the Pride's lead in half to 2-1 in the 37th minute of the first half. GC would take a 6-2 shot count lead into the break.

The second half then had a scoreless 23 minutes before GC made it 3-1 scoring in the 69th minute for their insurance goal. Columbia would go on to outshoot the Pride 7-2 in the second half while dominating possession but could not find the tying goals.

Senior Goalkeeper Nathan Huff went on to make 2 saves on 5 shots on goal in his first start of the season while Dennis led the team with 4 total shots.

Columbia falls to 2-2-1 overall while GC improved to 4-1-2. The Koalas next return home to host Milligan University on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
