Men's Swimming Falls to Piedmont in Home Opener
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's swim team dropped their home meet with Div. III Piedmont University (Ga.) by a score of 649-427 Saturday afternoon from Greer Natatorium.
The Koalas were led by freshmen Connor Lommerse and Za'Shawn Barr as they each placed 2nd in their events. Barr was the runner-up in the 200 Freestyle in 2:03.89 while junior Jamal Johnson was 4th in 2:19.34.
Lommerse was then the runner-up in the 100 Backstroke in 57.63 seconds finishing just a second off the top time while freshman Wyatt Krashner was 5th in 1:11.
Sophomore Thomas Remely then placed 4th in the 50 yard Breast stroke in 35.42 seconds while sophomore Noah Jackson came in 3rd in the 100 Fly in 1:08.36.
The Koala relay teams finished third and 4th in the 200 yard Medley and then 2nd and 3rd in the 200 yard Free Relay on the final event of the day. Lommerse, Barr, senior Stefan Merkel, and freshman Deon Ellisor swam a time of 1:42.06 to place 2nd in the 200 Free while the team of N. Jackson, junior Jamal Johnson, W. Krashner and T. Remely were 3rd in 1:51. In the 200 Medley, the team of C. Lommerse, Z. Barr, N. Jackson, and D. Ellisor finished third in 1:54.48 while the team of Krashner, Remely, Merkel, and Greyson Bryan were 4th in 2:07.
Ellisor and Bryan were also 4th and 5th respectively in the 50 Free with Ellisor touching the wall in 25.1 seconds and Bryan in at 28.84 seconds. Lommerse and Merkel then placed 3rd and 4th in the 100 Free with Lommerse touching in 54.14 seconds while Merkel was in at 57.82 seconds. Merkel and Remely then finished 4th and 5th in the 100 Breast in 1:21.36 and 1:22.53 seconds.
In the 500 yard Free, CC was led by Krashner placing 3rd in just over 6 minutes at 6:00.79 while Johnson was 4th in 6:40. In the 50 Fly, the Koalas had Ellisor, Jackson, and Bryan all place 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Ellisor swam a time of 27.6 seconds while Jackson was in at 28.3 and Bryan at 33.45. Finally, Barr finished 3rd in the 200 IM in a time of 2:22.26 seconds.
The men are next in the pool next Saturday in Greensboro, NC for the Greensboro College and Randolph College tri-meet at 12PM.
