Timmerman competes in Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Patrick Timmerman represented Columbia College cross country recently by running in the Boston Marathon on April 21.

He placed 9,477th out of over 28,300 in a time of 3 hours, 31 minutes, and 34 seconds in the 26.2 mile course in downtown Boston on Patriots' Day.

"It was definitely a cool experience, especially knowing that there already were not a large number of people from South Carolina racing in the Boston Marathon," said Timmerman. "It was great to be representing my hometown and representing the school that has been such a big part of my athletic journey."

"I got a lot of widened eyes when I told people at the race that I would be graduating college just a week after running the marathon." he continued. "But it was more than just running a race, it was about showing what Columbia College athletes are capable of on a national stage. Every step I took on that course, I carried with me the support of my community, my coaches, my classmates, and the pride of finishing my college career with a moment that felt bigger than me. Boston wasn't just a finish line — it was a celebration of everything this school and city helped me become."

Patrick was also named the MVP of the Cross Country team in the Fall at the recently held Athletic Awards Banquet last Thursday.
