Softball Picks up First Win in Split at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Columbia College softball team opened their season on the road Saturday afternoon in Georgia by splitting their doubleheader with NAIA foe, Brewton-Parker College. BPC won the first game 3-1 before the Koalas exploded for 13 runs in the second game to win 13-5.

GAME 1

Junior pitcher Addison Warner pitched all 7 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 3 with zero walks to suffer the hard-luck loss. The Koalas struggled to get any traction against BPC starter Kaylee Odum as she held CC to just two hits and one run with 4 walks and 5 Ks over 7 innings. RF/P Ally Boyd led the offense with a double while OF Lana Hampson drove in a run on a RBI single in the 5th.

GAME 2

The Koalas bounced back and showcased their offensive prowess as the Barons struggled in the circle, taking them down 13-5 in game two to force the split. BPC took an early 2-0 lead before CC scored 3 runs in the second and another in the 4th to lead 4-2 after 4 innings. The teams then combined for 8 runs in the 5th as a 5-run Koala inning staked CC to a 9-5 lead after five. Columbia then added four more runs in the 7th for the blowout win.

The Barons were unable to do much against Koalas starter Ally Boyd, who threw a 7-inning complete game, allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits walking two and striking out one to earn the win. Boyd also went 3 for 3 from the plate with three doubles scoring two runs and driving in three on two run-scoring doubles while also walking twice as she reached base five times.

Also recording doubles on the afternoon were LF Aliyah Crawley, SS Sophia Caley and catcher Taylor Perry. Caley and Perry also each drove in two runs as well while Caley went 3 for 3 on the day. Crawley also added two hits as well.

The Koalas, 1-1, will now head back on the road Wednesday to Augusta, GA to battle Paine College at 4 and 6 pm.
