COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College softball team split their doubleheader with Div. II Lincoln University (Pa.) at home Sunday afternoon. CC used dominant pitching to win game one 4-0 before falling 7-4 in game two.
GAME 1: CC 4, LU 0
Junior pitcher Addison Warner shut down the Lady Lions by shutting them out over 7 innings allowing just 2 hits while walking none and striking out seven. Warner is now 2-3 on the season with a 3.28 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
Leading the offense in the first game was senior 1B Aliyah Crawley as she went 2 for 3 with a two-run scoring double in the 4-run third inning before junior SS Sophia Caley followed with a two-run homer, her first of the day. Crawley's double brought home infielders Ashlynn Wolff and Maggie Hinz, who had each singled. 3B Elaina Seymour also recorded a hit for the Koalas. Stealing bases for CC were Wolff, Crawley and two for Seymour.
GAME 2: LU 7, CC 4
In game two, Lincoln got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning before Columbia rallied for 3 runs of their own in the 4th inning. Caley followed another Crawley double by homering to left field, her second two-run homer of the day to tie the game at 2. The Koalas then took the 3-2 lead on a Madison Cheek RBI single later in the inning.
However, Lincoln rallied in the 5th with a two-run homer before adding another run in the 6th to go up 5-3. They then increased their lead to 7-3 in the 7th before Columbia got one run back in the bottom of the 7th on starting pitcher Ally Boyd's RBI double. Boyd threw 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits while striking out three. Wolff also recorded two hits in the loss while catcher Reagan Kelly also singled and stole a base.
Columbia goes to 5-7 on the year while Lincoln stands at 3-3. The Lady Koalas remain home as they will begin conference play this coming weekend hosting Bluefield on Friday at 3 PM.
