Softball's Rally Not Enough vs Truett-McConnell

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College softball team could not corral the offense of the Bears of Truett McConnell University on Saturday at home as they fell 10-4 in game one and 12-2 in game two.

However, the Koalas had a quality spring break going 4-2 on the week and are now tied for 8th in the AAC at 6-4. 

GAME 1: TMU 10, CC 4

Truett got off to a fast start in game one scoring 4 runs in the first inning off Koala senior starter Addison Warner. Warner would then throw two shutout inning before the Bears got to her again knocking her out of the game in the 4th inning as they scored 4 more runs. Warner allowed 7 runs on 7 hits while walking three over 3+ innings. Junior reliever Kynsly Gehling then came on and finished out the game throwing 4 innings allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits.

Columbia rallied in the 4th inning scoring three runs before adding another in the 5th on a Bear error that scored 2B Maggie Hinz to get to within 8-4. Elaina Seymour got CC on the board with her 4th inning RBI single driving in Crawley while freshman OF Madison Cheek then came around to score on Reagan Kelly's batted ball for CC's second run. Outfielder Lana Hampson's RBI single then brought home Seymour with the third run. TMU, however, put the game out of reach in the 6th inning with two more runs.

Aliyah Crawley led the offense with two hits while Hinz had the lone extra base hit.  

GAME 2: TMU 12, CC 2

Junior pitcher Ally Boyd got off to a tough start allowing 3 runs in the first inning and two more in the second. She ended up allowing 7 runs on 9 hits with a walk over 2+ innings. Senior reliever Paige Branham then came on and settled down the Bear offense a bit including two shutout innings. She threw 4 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while reliever Kynsly Gehling finished out the game allowing two runs on 2 hits and a walk.

The Koala offense was led by two doubles from junior shortstop Ashlynn Wolff while senior 1B/OF Aliyah Crawley had the two RBI on two sacrifice files. Freshman 3B Elaina Seymour also recorded two hits in the game.

The Koalas fall to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in the conference while Truett improves to 5-1 in the league and 14-6 overall. 

Columbia will next head on the road on Thursday when they head upstate to battle Spartanburg Methodist in a 1 PM doubleheader on the 13th.
