Koala Softball Can't Get Offense Going in Losses to Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. - The Columbia College softball team fell 5-0 in each game of their conference doubleheader on the road at Bryan College (TN) on Saturday in central Tennessee.

In game one, senior starting pitcher Ally Boyd threw 4 and 2/3 innings allowing six hits and five runs (4 earned) on a walk and three strikeouts while freshman reliever Nealy Lockner finished out the game with 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out  two.

Bryan got on the board in the first on an RBI groundout before consecutive RBI singles in the 2nd inning put the Lions ahead by four. They then added one more in the 5th knocking out starter Boyd. Junior SS Ashlynn Wolff reached base on a single in the 1st inning while junior 2B Joni Littlejohn sacrificed Wolff to second. However, a pop out and fly out ended the Koala threat.

Sophomore 3B Elaina Seymour was then hit by a pitch in the 2nd inning and advanced to second base on a passed ball before being stranded. Littlejohn also walked with two outs in the third while Wolff advanced to second on an error in the 6th, but neither runner could make it home to score.

In game two, junior starting pitcher Maddie Vaughn lasted just 2 and 2/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits on three walks and a strikeout as BC took a 3-0 lead after three innings on two RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk. Senior reliever Amanda Lohrey then threw 1 and 2/3 innings giving up a two-run double on five hits with two strikeouts while fellow reliever, Lockner, finished out the game again walking one and allowing one hit over the final 1 and 2/3 innings.

Unfortunately, the Koalas could get nothing going offensively with Littlejohn recording the only hit. She also reached base via a walk in the 7th and advanced to second before being stranded as well. Seymour also reached base on a walk in the 4th inning.

The Koalas fell to 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference while BC improved to 9-7 and 2-0 in the AAC.

Columbia is right back in action on Sunday on the road at Tenn. Wesleyan University in a 1:00 PM DH.
