Koalas Women’s Basketball Opens New Era

Columbia, SC -- The Columbia College women's basketball team will open a new era Saturday when they host Bryan in its 2022-23 season and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener. Tip-off is 2 p.m. in the Godbold Center on the campus of Columbia College.

Head coach NaJarius "JJ" Green begins his tenure at the helm of the Koalas. Coach Green joined the Columbia College staff in May and has several emotions about starting his head coaching career.

"Grateful is a word that comes to mind when thinking about coaching my first game," said Green. "I couldn't be more thankful for this opportunity and beyond thankful for this group of young ladies!"

After a productive preseason, the Koalas are ready to get the competition underway.

"We are excited to begin our 2022-2023 basketball season. Our young ladies are eager to get on the floor," said Green.

Columbia College is fortunate to play its first three-of-four games in the confines of home. This should allow Coach Green, his staff, and the players to see their preseason hard work come into play.

"We had a great preseason, and we are looking forward to watching our progression flow onto the court this season," said Green.

The Koalas were picked to finish 14th in the AAC Preseason Polls and will return its second-leading scorer, Carnasia Wells, who averaged 16.4 points per game.

After Bryan, Columbia College will travel to Gainesville, Ga, to take on Brenau in an AAC contest. The Koalas will then return to host Kentucky Christian (Nov. 12) and Point (Nov. 19) before taking a break for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
