Lady Koalas Fall in OT to Brenau
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team dropped a tough game in overtime, 80-68 to AAC foe Brenau University (GA) on Saturday afternoon from the Godbold Center.
Trailing by one with 15 seconds remaining, junior guard Anaya Muhammad made a go-ahead three-pointer to put CC in front 62-60 with 6 seconds left. However, BU knocked down two free throws to send it to OT and, unfortunately, proceeded to outscore the Koalas 18-6 in the extra period to get the win.
Brenau held a 16-15 lead after one quarter before CC took a 31-26 lead into the halftime break. The Koalas then got out to a quick 13-point lead in the third quarter, going up 44-31 after the first five minutes to finish a 13-5 run. However, even as CC led by 12 with 3 minutes to play in the third, Brenau finished the quarter on an 11-0 run.
The Koalas could not increase their lead by more than five points throughout the fourth as BU kept clawing their way back in it to eventually force overtime.
Columbia was led by 18 points and three 3-pointers from sophomore guard Makiah Thompson along with six assists, two steals and two rebounds while senior guard Tameah Gaddis scored 10 points and grabbed 7 steals with two assists and a block. Junior guard Anaya Muhammad also scored 11 points off the bench with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals and a block.
Freshman forward Natalie Pitts played well offensively notching nine points with two rebounds and a block while junior forward Shandrea Pringle added 7 points and 7 rebounds with 4 steals and an assist. Tysonia Lowe also added six points, 2 assists and a steal.
The Koalas fall to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference while Brenau improved to 7-7 on the season and 2-5 in the AAC.
The Ladies will remain home to finish the semester by hosting non-conference foe Clinton College on Monday evening at 6:00 pm.
