Lady Koalas Win 3rd Straight knocking off Rival CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team rolled to a 68-51 win over crosstown rival CIU in the ladies' final home game of the season. The win was CC's third straight as they are now 9-10 in the conference and 13-14 overall.

The women were led by 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals from redshirt freshman point guard Makiah Thompson while fellow freshman guard, Krislyn Wilder scored 12 points off the bench including 8 points in a 2-minute span in the first half to give the Koalas a big lead.

Senior shooting guard Tameah Gaddis also scored 11 points with 3 assists and 3 steals while freshman forward Natalie Pitts had 9 points and 4 rebounds. The Koalas shot 38% overall and 23 percent from three while forcing 24 CIU turnovers and grabbing 15 steals led by five from junior guard Lauren Wearbon. Junior guard Tysonia Lowe also added 6 points, 4 rebounds and two assists off the bench.

CIU shot just 15.5% from three and only 36 percent overall as Columbia held the Rams to just 21 first half points taking a 28-21 lead into the locker room. The Koalas then scored 40 points in the second half outscoring the Rams 40-30 including 20-16 in the third and 20-14 in the fourth.

The Koalas will next finish out their regular season on Saturday when they head to Tennessee Wesleyan for a 2:00 pm battle in the team's first meeting of the season.
