Koala Lacrosse Falls to Warren Wilson on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's lacrosse team competed hard on Senior Day but could not climb out of an early hole in falling 18-4 at home to Div. III foe Warren Wilson College on Saturday afternoon.

Columbia tallied four goals in the loss, including two from freshman attacker Taylor Gipson, but the Koalas could not find the net in the second half. CC trailed 13-4 at halftime while the second quarter score was only 4-2 in favor of the Owls. However, WWC kept the Koalas off the scoreboard in the second half outscoring them 5-0 to get the win. A nine-goal first quarter pushed WWC to the big lead.

Gipson got the Koalas on the board at the 9-minute mark of the 1st quarter trimming the Owl lead down to three at 4-1 before Warren Wilson added four more goals to take an 8-1 lead. Junior defender Briana Huff then scored her first goal of the season at the 2-minute mark of the quarter as well. Huff finished with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control win.

In the second quarter, the Koalas added back-to-back goals with under two minutes to go as senior attacker Taylor Perry scored her first career goal off an assist from Gipson before Gipson followed with the fourth Koala goal and second herself to get CC to within eight at 12-4. Perry would end up with a solid game totaling 3 ground balls, 3 draw control wins and 3 forced turnovers to go along with her goal.

Freshman Goalie Lillianna Imhof allowed 18 goals on 28 shots making 10 saves while the shot count was 34-18 in favor of the Owls. The Koalas equaled the same amount of shots in the 2nd and 4th quarters, however, as well.

Gipson led in shots with 11 including 7 on goal while picking up six ground balls to lead the team. She also totaled 3 draw control wins and two caused turnovers to go along with her two goals and assist.

The Koalas fell to 0-8 overall while WWC improved to 3-5. Columbia will next head to #4 Reinhardt University in Georgia on Saturday to face the Eagles at 1:00 pm.
