Columbia College (SC) Women’s Soccer Team Hosts Edward Waters College in Season Opener
Columbia, SC – The Columbia College women's soccer team will host Edward Waters College in its season opener on Friday. The non-conference contest will get underway at 3 pm in Younts Stadium, the home of Koala Soccer.
Head Coach Robert Hunter, who begins his 5th season at the helm, will put a team on the field that boasts a solid mix of veterans and newcomers. The team will be comprised of 10 returning players, and 15 new faces.
"The coaching staff is looking forward to the season and seeing what our group can do," said Hunter. "We have a mixed number of talented returners with a large group of new players who we are expecting to make an immediate impact."
Hunter continued, "The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) is very tough, and every game will be a challenge for us, but we are excited to watch the team grow and improve as the season progresses."
The Koalas are picked to finish tied with Union at 11th in the AAC Preseason Poll.
Returnees likely to make an impact for Columbia College this season include sophomore defenders Lakelee Aldrich (defender) and Josie Vega (defender), along with junior defender Theresa Chambers and fifth-year senior midfielder, Brianna Sandoval.
Coach Hunter and his staff are also expecting to get production from newcomers Madison Stewart (midfielder) and Jayla Pugh (defender), both junior transfers.
After Friday's game, Columbia College will hit the road next Friday, Sept. 3, when it travels to Spartanburg, SC to face USC-Lancaster.
