Koalas Take Down Rams To Move To 2-0 In AAC
Kayann Glass had two assists in the 6-0 victory over Bluefield University
Kianna Dodge had a hat-trick and Isabella Gurrieri added two goals as the Columbia College Koalas beat the visiting Bluefield University Rams 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Applachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play at Younts Stadium.
Columbia entered the game 1-0 in the AAC and it didn't take long for them to get the opening goal. Just over six minutes into the game, Brooke Piscitello found Dodge on the right wing and she beat two defenders before finding the bottom corner with her shot to make it 1-0 to the Koalas. Just over two minutes later it was 2-0, as Jordan Myers scored on an assist by Brianna Sandoval with a composed finish past the keeper.
In the 29th minute, Dodge scored her second of the game with a quality finish after a cross from Kayann Glass. Gurrieri then scored her first goal of the game in the 38th minute when Tianna Roberts found Glass and her through ball was finished by Gurrieri to make it 4-0 to the Koalas.
Gurrieri then added her second of the game and fifth goal of the year just before halftime when she latched on to a misplaced backpass and dribbled past the Rams keeper before finding the back of the net.
Five minutes into the second half, Dodge completed her hat-trick when she picked up a loose ball and blasted one past the Bluefield keeper at the near post for the 6-0 margin.
Despite heavy pressure over the last forty minutes, the Koalas were unable to find the back of the net again with the Rams defending very well in warm conditions.
In the game, Columbia outshot Bluefield 24-12 with Emma Parker collecting five saves in the first half and Mistify Honstein picking up 3 in the second.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, September 18th when they travel to Brenau University for a 6PM kickoff in the Koalas first away game in the AAC.
