Koalas drop match to Cavs on road
Tianna Roberts scored her first goal of the season
The Columbia College Koalas women's soccer team dropped a close contest 3-1 to the Montreat Cavaliers on the road on Wednesday evening in AAC action.
In a game with very few chances, the Cavaliers were able to take advantage of a few more opportunities than the Koalas which was the difference in the final outcome of the game.
Montreat opened the scoring off a corner from their first attack in the 5th minute, and added a second goal on only their second shot in the 24th minute of the game.
The Koalas were able to cut the deficit in half in the 39th minute, as Tianna Roberts stole the ball from a defender before firing a shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner. It was Roberts' first goal of the season.
The second half was a very cagey affair with only a few total shots, but the Cavs were able to pad their lead in the 71st minute with a well-worked goal. Despite controlling possession for long periods of the match, the Koalas were unable to trouble the Montreat goal often enough, and the match finished with the final scoreline of 3-1 to the Cavaliers.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, September 25th when they return home to host the Bryan College Lions in another AAC matchup. The women's game will kick off after the completion of the men's game at around 3:30PM
