Freshman Grace Boyce Wins 2 Individual Breaststroke Titles at AAC Championships; Named Newcomer of the Year
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Freshman Grace Boyce went on to win the individual title in the 100 yard breaststroke final on Day 2 of the 2026 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's and Women's Swimming Championship Meet on Friday. It was the Koala's first individual title in at least five years. She was also named AAC Newcomer of the Year by the conference after the meet as well.
The three-day event was held at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool in Kingsport, Tenn.
- Women's 100 Breaststroke Champion - Grace Boyce (Columbia), 1:06.65. She won by over a full second and set a provisional time for NAIA Nationals.
- Women's 200 Breaststroke Champ - Grace Boyce, 2:24.9. Boyce then won the 200 Breast on Saturday as well in 2:24 for a provisional NAIA time.
In the women's team competition, Milligan won their 5th straight with 921 points, while Brenau came in second with 677 points. Columbia (334 points) was third, while Tennessee Southern (208 points), Pikeville (200 points), and WV Tech (115 points) made up the rest of the field.
The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team also finished 3rd of 8 in a time of 1:51 with Boyce leading the way in the opening leg in 25.38 seconds followed by senior Giuliana Schiavon and sophomore Sabrina Schiavon, and freshman Anna Hardwick. Then, in the 200 yard Medley Relay, the Koalas also finished 3rd of 7 in 2:03 led by the team of Hardwick, Boyce, G. Schiavon, and S. Schiavon as Sabrina swam the fastest leg in 28.3 seconds.
In the women's 800 Free Relay, CC finished 3rd again in 9:17 led by the team of Boyce, Giuliana, Sabrina, and Hardwick. Finally, in the 400 Medley Relay, Columbia placed 3rd of 7 in a time of 4:34 led by the team of Hardwick in the opening leg, Boyce in the second leg, Giuliana in the third and Sabrina in the closing leg swimming the fastest time in 29.2 seconds. Also on Saturday in the 400 Free Relay, the ladies finished 3rd of six in 4:12 led by Boyce in the opener, Giuliana, Sabrina and Hardwick.
Boyce also finished tied for 6th in the 200 IM Finals in 2:17 while Giuliana was 9th in 2:31, Sabrina was 11th in 2:40 and Hardwick 12th in 2:42. Boyce swam a provisional 2:13 in the Prelims as well to place 2nd. Giuliana Schiavon then finished 7th in the 100 Fly in 1:06.51. Hardwick also placed 6th in the 1650 Free in 22:43.
