Women's Indoor Track & Field Finishes 2nd at VA Holiday Open

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Columbia College women's indoor track and field team opened their season on Sunday competing in the D3 Shenandoah Univ. Holiday Open held in northern Virginia. The Lady Koalas came away with a terrific finish placing 2nd overall as a team out of 11 teams in the meet. Dickinson College (Pa.) won the meet followed by CC, Wash. & Lee (Va.), Shenandoah, and Roanoke rounding out the top five teams.

The women won four separate events at the Open led by sophomore Latrice Brown winning the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes while throwers, senior Darci Dawson and sophomore Doreshia McAllister won the shot put and weight throw respectively. Columbia so thoroughly dominated the 60 meter dash qualifications that they put 5 into the finals and placed 7 in the top 12 and 8 in the top 20.

Brown won the 60 meters in 7.8 seconds while taking first inthe 200 in 26.3 seconds with teammate, Ashante Shaw finishing runner-up both times. Columbia placed four women in the top 5 of the 200.

Dawson won the shot put by an impressive .4 meters while McAllister's weight throw win was by a full meter over the runner up (16.4-15.4). The Lady Koalas also placed three in the top four of the weight throw standings.

The indoor Ladies are next competing January 12 at another Shenandoah Invitational in Virginia.
