McAllister's Record Setting Hammer Throw Leads Women's Track

RESULTS

MONTREAT, N.C. - The Columbia College women's outdoor track and field team competed in the Montreat College Open with track events on Friday and field events on Saturday. 

Junior Doreshia McAllister set a school record in the Hammer Throw on Friday afternoon, setting a mark of 49.15 meters (161 ft) to win by an impressive six meters over her closest competitor from D-2 Mars Hill. Senior Hali Doctor and junior Jada Robinson also did well in the hammer throw placing 10th and 11th respectively with throws of 35.5 meters while junior Sia Hooker was 13th at 32.8 meters.

In the Discus Throw on Saturday, CC was led by junior Qu'Sondra Wideman finishing 3rd of 21 with a personal-best throw of 37.4 meters finishing ahead of every NAIA competitor while sophomore Zulma Carcamo was 6th at 33.5 meters. During the Javelin Throw on Friday, CC was led by freshman Mizoria Cook placing 12th with a throw of nearly 19 meters (62 ft). In the Shot Put on Saturday morning, freshman Jer'Niya Alston finished 7th of 20 with a mark of 9.8 meters (32 ft) while Wideman was right behind in 8th at 9.4 meters.

In the jumping events, Columbia was led by sophomore Jayla Graham winning the Long Jump on Saturday with a mark of 5.4 meters (17.8 ft) while junior Makayla Blango was 3rd at 5.23 meters. Freshman Chenoa Haygood then won the Triple Jump on Saturday with a mark of 11.4 meters (37.5 ft) to set her personal best jump while she also placed 4th in the Long Jump at 5 meters.

Sophomore Avarose Buccino then led the ladies in the two Distance events on Friday, placing 7th of 26 in the 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:28 while freshman Alissa McCann was right behind in 10th in 2:28.2. Finishing 12th was senior Juliana Gonzalez with a personal best time of 2:31. Buccino then led the team again in the 1500 meters finishing 10th of 26 in 5:08 for a personal best time while freshman Aja Rushing was 13th in 5:21 and Annsley Howle 16th in 5:27.

During the Sprints, the Lady Koalas were led by freshman Dara Gray winning both the 100 meters and 200 meter events while freshman Sharetta Jones was 2nd in the 400 meters in 59.9 seconds for a personal best time. Gray set a personal best time herself in the 100 meters finishing ahead of the pack in 12.3 seconds while teammate, Jayla Graham was right behind in 2nd place in 12.6 seconds for her best time. Finishing 4th was junior Kwamecia Marks in 12.9 seconds while sophomore Tylashia Alston was  6th in 13 seconds.

Gray then won the 200 meters as well in 25.48 seconds while J. Graham was again 2nd in 25.87 seconds. Sweeping the top three for CC was T. Alston coming in at 26.1 seconds while K. Marks was 5th out of 25 in 26.5 seconds. 

The track and field team will next be competing on April 2-3 at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, NC.
