Columbia Volleyball Rolls Past St. Andrews 3-0

COLUMBIA, SC - The Koala Volleyball squad rolled to a 3-0 win over visiting rival St. Andrews University Tuesday evening from the Godbold Center.

The Koalas won the first st 25-18 on 8 kills and the second set by a score of 25-17 with 10 kills while hitting .147. The third set saw SAU get out to a quick 4-0 lead and again have the advantage at 14-13 before CC went on a run to go up 20-17 and force a Knight timeout. Columbia then closed out the Knights 25-20 on 9 kills in the third for the win.

Senior OH Jada Gentry led the Koalas with 11 kills along with 11 digs and four aces as she recorded her third double-double of the season while also leading CC in each category. Fellow senior OH Gracie Hicklin also played well recording 9 kills while hitting .316 with two digs. Sophomore setter Debra Shephard then added 32 assists, 3 aces, two kills and a block assist on the night as well.

Senior middle blocker Destiny Brown registered 10 kills to hit .444 with a block while freshman right side hitter Tamia Fripp added 8 kills to hit .333. Freshman libero Katie Roberts also added nine digs, three assists and an ace on the night while defensive specialists Dani Goings and Amanda Velez combined for 10 digs.

The victory improves Columbia to 3-15 overall and 2-9 in the conference while SAU falls to 0-13 in the AAC.

The Koalas will continue their week-long homestand when they get back in Godbold on Friday evening to take on Bryan College at 6:30 pm before also hosting TWU on Saturday at 11 am.
