Columbia Women Finish 9th at Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. - The Columbia College women's cross country team competed at the Brevard Classic in the mountains of NC over the weekend running a 5K for the second time this season. The team went on to place 9th out of 14 schools overall in the mostly NCAA Div. II meet.

North Greenville won the meet followed by D-1 Gardner Webb, Lander, Milligan and Tusculum in the top five while Columbia finished just 13 points behind Bryan College in 9th place while finishing ahead of four D-2 schools.

CC was led by senior Juliana Gonzalez running a time of 20:53 to place 34th in the 5K. Sophomore Avarose Buccino then placed 45th in a time of 21:29 while freshman Annsley Howle was 51st in 21:58. Fellow freshman Aja Rushing then finished 54th in 22 minutes flat while senior Jennyfer Vigueras completed the scoring placing 64th in 22:35.

Also running was freshman Alissa McCann placing 66th in 22:36.

The cross country teams will next be competing in the Live in Lou 8K Classic in Louisville, KY in two weeks on October 4.
