Men's Lacrosse Drops Rematch with Webber in Florida
BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Columbia College inaugural men's lacrosse team dropped their rematch at Webber International University on Friday afternoon falling 24-4 to the Warriors from central Florida.
CC got out to a fast start in this one scoring two of the first three goals to take a brief 2-1 lead at the 8-minute mark of the opening quarter. Scoring the first Koala goal was freshman attackman Tanner Kuykendall off an assist from fellow freshman midfielder Landon Flenniken at the 12:45 mark. Freshman midfielder William Tanks then scored the second Koala goal off an assist from fellow freshman midfielder Gavin Gordon at the 8:15 mark.
However, Webber then stepped on the gas to score the next five goals of the opening period to lead 6-2 after one. WIU then increased their lead to 10-2 after the first 10 minutes of the second quarter before the Koalas answered with their third goal at the 3-minute mark of the second quarter on a goal from junior midfielder Rione Konz off another assist from Gordon to make it 10-3. Unfortunately, Webber added five more goals over the final 2:35 to take a 15-3 lead into the break.
Columbia scored their 4th and final goal of the game in the 3rd quarter as Gordon again found freshman midfielder Noah Norwood for the goal at the 5 minute mark as Webber took a 20-4 lead after three.
Making 12 saves on 32 shots over 3 quarters was graduate senior goalie Fin Landi while fellow goalie, sophomore Joshua Nguyen recorded six saves on 10 shots in the fourth. Kuykendall led with six shots along with two ground balls while Tanks won five face-offs. Freshmen defenders Gavin Hunt and Lee Williams each picked up three ground balls apiece in the defeat.
CC drops to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the league while Webber improves to 7-3 and 3-1 in the conference. The Koalas will next complete the away portion of their schedule when they head to Georgia to battle #4 Reinhardt University next Thursday at 5:00 pm before returning home next Saturday, 3/28, at 3 PM to host TWU.
