Men's Lacrosse's Rally Falls Short in Loss vs. Point

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College inaugural men's lacrosse team fell 16-6 at home to conference foe Point University (Ga.) from Younts Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Koalas outscored the Skyhawks 4-3 in the fourth quarter while Point only won the second half by a score of 6-4 as Columbia's play improved throughout the game after trailing 10-2 at halftime.

Point got out to a 4-0 lead 10 minutes into the game before the Koalas scored their first goal at the 3:30 mark when freshman Kaelan Robinson scored unassisted. PU then added three quick goals to start the second to take an 8-1 lead. Freshman attacker Noah Norwood then added a goal just a few seconds before halftime for CC's second goal. 

Point scored a quick goal to start the third period before CC held them scoreless over the next 8 minutes. Point, however, brought a 13-2 lead into the fourth quarter when freshman attacker Gavin Gordon got the Koalas their third goal to start off the 4th while he then added another at the 6-minute mark off an assist from Lee Williams. Sophomore defender Peyton Brand then added the 5th CC goal off an assist from freshman attacker Tanner Kuykendall just 11 seconds later. Gordon then completed his three-goal hat trick late in the game scoring the sixth Koala goal.

Senior goalie Fin Landi made six saves on 15 shots on goal allowing nine goals over 25 minutes of action while sophomore Joshua Nguyen made 10 saves on 17 shots on goal over 35 minutes. Point outshot the Koalas 58-32 overall while freshman faceoff Kai Correia won 11 faceoffs and recorded six ground balls. Freshman midfielder William Tanks also grabbed 3 ground balls and attempted six shots while Gordon attempted seven shots with two ground balls.

Columbia falls to 2-10 overall and 0-6 in the AAC while Point improved to 7-6 on the year and 2-4 in the league. The Koalas will remain home to host Life University (GA) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
