Koala Men’s Soccer Notch First Win in Program History
Koye' Gnamien Scores Program First Goal
Toccoa Falls, Ga. (09-08-21) -- Koye' Gnamien scored the first-ever goal in program history as Columbia College (SC) defeated Toccoa Falls College, 1-0, in a hard-fought battle to pick up the program first win.
After testing the Screaming Eagles defense early in the game, Koye, a 5-10, 162lb sophomore from Paris, France, knocked in the 30-yard lobbed in the first half for the only goal of the game.
Toccoa Falls had a chance to knot the score off a free-kick in the opening half, but Columbia College goalkeeper Miguel Rivas-Giraldo was solid at the net, picking up the save.
The Koalas had several other chances in the first half, but the Screaming Eagles goalkeeper made some crucial saves to end the threat.
The first half of play was cut short by lightning, with 2:43 left to play. After almost an hour of delay, the game resumed with the second half.
Columbia College offense continued to play solid in the second half, with a couple of chances at the goal but did not capitalize.
The most dangerous threat of the second half from the Screaming Eagles came off a throw-in, followed by a header inside the box, but Rivas-Giraldo was once again solid in goal. The 5-10, 180lb junior from Cadiz, Spain, fought off several other attempts at goal to help secure the win for the Koalas.
Columbia College will look to keep its streak going when they host Kentucky Christian University in its inaugural home game Saturday, Sept. 11. The contest will get underway at approximately 3 p.m., following the women's contest.
