COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team took on their crosstown rival, Columbia International, on the road Wednesday evening but fell just short 1-0 at CIU.
CIU scored the lone goal of the game right before intermission at the 43 minute mark while taking the slim 3-2 lead in the shot count. CC outshot the Rams 5-4 in the second half, but could not quite find the tying goal to earn the pivotal point.
Columbia posted four corner kicks and seven total shots with three on goal led by two shots apiece from freshman forward Jacob Madeiros and junior forward Natneal Micheal. The teams combined for 25 total fouls in the game along with eight yellow cards and a red card.
Junior goalkeeper Nathan Huff went on to make 2 saves on 3 shots on goal to suffer the tough loss.
Columbia falls to 6-5-2 with the loss and 4-3-2 in the conference to fall into 6th place with 14 points while CIU improves to 5-5-1 and 4-4-1 in the AAC to move into 7th place with 13 points.
The Koalas will next head to Knoxville, TN to battle Johnson University on Saturday at 4:30 pm.
