Men's Tennis Defeats Brevard in Fall Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - The Columbia College men's tennis team battled tough to pull out a good road win to defeat Div. III squad Brevard College 5-2 Friday afternoon.

Columbia took a 1-0 lead after the three doubles matches winning two out of the three duals. The top doubles team of senior Ozzy Bosch and sophomore Gabriel Kian won their bout 6-3 while the #2 team of junior Jonah Haller and freshman Noah Snipes won 6-4. The third team of freshman Torben Paas and senior Tiaan Jacobs then fell 6-4 in their hard-fought match.

During singles play, the Koalas received wins from Bosch at the top line, Haller at the 2 line, Kian at the 5, and Snipes at the sixth spot. Bosch won 6-4, 6-4 while Haller won 6-3, 7-6. Kian then dominated his foe 6-1, 6-2 while Snipes won 6-2 and 7-6 as well. Jacobs also dropped a third set tiebreaker in his singles match at the 3 line as he won his first set 7-6 but fell 4-6 and 0-1 (2-10 in the tiebreak).

Columbia, now 1-0, will next return to action when they host Div. II foe Anderson University (SC) on Oct. 30 at 2 pm.
