Volleyball's Rally Falls Short on Road at Milligan

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - The Columbia College Volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road at Milligan University Friday evening in northeastern Tennessee.

Milligan won the first two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-10 before the Koalas fell just short in the third set 22-25 as CC totaled 11 kills and hit .192. MU finished with 34 kills overall to the Koalas' 22. Milligan ran out to another big lead in the third set going up 15-7 before the Koalas went on a 9-4 run to get within three points at 16-19. Columbia then got to within two points at 22-20 before using Maranda Bird's back-to-back kills to again get within two at 22-24 but, unfortunately, could not extend the match as MU took the final set.

Columbia had three hitters each tally five kills apiece as freshman right side hitter Kameron Turner hitting the best at .250 while senior middle blocker Destiny Brown and junior outside hitter Maranda Bird also had five kills each. Senior Middle hitter Savanna Logan had three kills and a block as well. Brown also posted two blocks while Bird recorded five digs with a block and an ace.

Junior setter Debra Shephard put up 18 assists with two digs, a kill and a block while defensive specialists Riley Koellner and Katie Roberts also combined for 15 digs with Roberts adding a service ace.

Columbia falls to 3-21 overall with the loss and 3-12 in the AAC while Milligan improved to 6-21 and 5-9 in the conference and into 9th place overall.

The Koalas will next have a week off before returning home to host Montreat College on Halloween Night next Friday at 6:30 pm.
