COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team put up a terrific effort against quality conference foe Truett McConnell University on Wednesday afternoon, but fell 2-0 in the end from Younts Stadium.
Truett (3-2, 2-0 AAC) got on the board first with a penalty kick goal in the 34th minute of play after a Koala foul in the box. This was after CC just missed on two quality chances to put a goal on the board with one just going over the cross bar from junior forward Natneal Micheal and another from freshman forward Jacob Madeiros on a big save from TMU.
Eight minutes later, however, Truett added their second goal in the 42nd minute to increase their lead to 2-0 at the break while holding an 8-4 edge in the shot count.
In the second half, the Koalas came out battling looking for their first goal while outshooting TMU 9-6 in the half but could not come up with the goods despite numerous opportunities as the Truett keeper stood tall.
Madeiros led with four shots and three on goal while senior keeper Mathias Gravesen made 4 saves on 6 shots on goal. The teams combined for 25 fouls in the match as well.
Columbia suffers their first loss of the season falling to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference and will next take their first road trip to Pikeville, KY this Saturday to battle the Bears in a 5:30 pm start.
