Women's Tennis Opens Season with Back-to-Back Wins
COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College women's tennis team opened their season Friday afternoon with a 6-0 shutout win over Div. III Agnes Scott College (Ga.) at home.
The Lady Koalas swpt the doubles matches via scores of 6-0, 6-0 to give CC a quick 2-0 lead. They were led by the top doubles team of senior Helena Jokanovic and junior Aniya Sims and the #2 doubles team of Rachel Thompson and sophomore Vienne Geren.
Then in singles, Jokanovic got the Koalas rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot while Sims won 6-2, 6-2 at the #2 spot. Freshman Rachel Thompson then won 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot before fellow freshman Camryn McCutchen won 6-0, 6-0 at the 4 spot.
Columbia improved to 2-0 and next went up to Charlotte on Saturday to battle Johnson & Wales in a 2pm match.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Ladies came away with another win, this time 6-1 over the Wildcats. The top doubles team of Sims and Jokanovic cruised to a 6-2 win while the #2 team of Geren and Thompson defeated their foes 6-1. Finally, the third tandem of Joye Tate and McCutchen got the 6-3 win.
In singles, Jokanovic led off at the top line, 6-0, 6-1 win while Sims was victorious 6-1 and 6-2 at the 2 line. Thompson then won 6-0, 6-4 at the third line while Geren won 6-0, 7-5 at the fourth line. McCutchen also defeated her foe 6-1, 6-1 while Tate lost a close three-setter 2-6, 6-4, 4-10.
Now 3-0, the Lady Koalas will next begin conference play on Friday when they head up to Tenn. Wesleyan for a 2pm match.
