Lady Koala Tennis Falls to Top Seed TWU at Conference Meet

CHATTANOOGA, TN- The No. 8 seeded Columbia College Lady Koala women's tennis team fell by a score of 4-0 to the top seed, No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan, in the 2025 AAC Women's Tennis conference Championship Tournament on Thursday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Tournament play is a first-to-clinch format, meaning the first team to score four points wins the match. The Bulldogs won the doubles point via scores of 6-0, 6-0 over the teams of junior Natalia Diaz and freshman Rachel Thompson at the 2 spot and sophomore Vienne Geren / freshman Camryn McCutchen at the 3 spot.

TWU, ranked 7th nationally, found the remaining three points from wins in the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles. Geren fell 0-6, 0-6 at #3 singles while junior Aniya Sims went down 1-6, 0-6 at #4. Freshman Rachel Thompson then dropped her match at #5 singles, 1-6, 1-6. 

The Lady Koala's top player, senior Helena Jokanovic, was leading her match 6-4, 2-0 when play was halted due to TWU clinching the win. Diaz was also tied at 3 in the second set in her #2 match when play stopped.

Jokanovic was named Second Team All-Conference as well on Thursday while V. Geren was named to the Champions of Character Team. Making the All-Academic Team with at least a 3.25 GPA were N. Diaz, V. Geren, H. Jokanovic, C. McCutchen, and junior Joye Tate

Columbia finishes their season with a record of 9-7 overall and 3-5 in conference.

The win advanced TWU (12-3) to the semifinals where they faced off with No. 4 seed Milligan (TN) on Friday at 2:00 PM. SCAD-Atlanta played Union (KY) in the other women's semifinal.
