Koala Tennis Falls on the Road at Montreat
SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Columbia College men's and women's tennis teams each fell in intense conference matches on the road at Montreat College up in the NC mountains on Friday. The men fell 6-1 while women were edged 4-3.
The men dropped a heartbreaking doubles battle 2-1 to lose the point as the top doubles team of senior Waldo Bosch and sophomore Gabriel Kian won 7-5 in a tiebreaker to take the set 7-6. However, the third team of senior Owen Brumfield and freshman Noah Snipes fell 7-5 on the third line while the second team of freshman Len Spanier and junior Michael Schiesz lost 6-1.
During singles play, Snipes led the way at #6 winning his match 6-3, 7-5 while Bosch dropped a heartbreaking match at the top line after winning the first set 6-1. He then fell 6-7 in a second set tiebreak (7-5) before dropping the third set tiebreak 10-5. Spanier then lost 6-1, 6-2 at the #2 singles while freshman Torben Paas went down 6-2, 6-0 at the third line. Kian lost 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles while Brumfield was shutout 6-0, 6-0 at #5 singles.
The Koala men fall to 6-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference while Montreat improved to 6-11 overall and 3-4 in conference. The men will next host Belmont Abbey on Friday at 2:30 pm.
