Men's Tennis Falls at Home to D-2 Belmont Abbey
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's tennis team fell at home 8-2 (7-0) to NCAA Div. II foe Belmont Abbey College (NC) on Friday afternoon from the Koala Tennis Courts.
The men played three close doubles matches dropping two out of three as BAC grabbed the early doubles point. CC's top doubles team of senior Waldo Bosch and sophomore Gabriel Kian lost a heartbreaker 7-5 while the #2 team of freshman Len Spanier and Michael Schiesz fell 6-4. The Koala third team of senior Owen Brumfield and freshman Noah Snipes then won easily 6-1 at the #3 court.
During singles play, Brumfield dropped a thrilling match at the #5 line going down 6-7 (9-7 in tiebreak), 4-6 while freshman Torben Paas could not rally and fell 1-6, 3-6 at #2 singles. Fellow freshman Carter McKie then won his bout at #7 singles 8-3.
Spanier lost 0-6, 2-6 at #1 singles while Schiesz fell 1-6, 2-6 at #3 singles. Also dropping singles matches were sophomore Thomas Remely at #4 singles and freshman Ben Brown at #6 singles.
Columbia falls to 6-8 overall while BAC improves to 18-14 on their season. The Koalas next return to action at home on Friday to host Div. III Brevard College (NC) on Senior Day at 3:00 pm.
